Distribution Policy

We distribute our electronic journals to members in plain text format, in hypertext format, and in printed format. The hypertext distribution is available from this site to members of the Asiatica Association. The plain text distribution is sent automatically by email, to members who prefer not to wait for the WWW distribution to appear. The printed distribution is available from the Asiatica Association, or from one of our international distributors.

The publication of both journals is irregular: from August 1995 to October 1997, we have published six issues of the Journal of South Asia Women Studies. This depends on the number and quality of the papers we receive. It also depends on how fast we read papers and we and the authors amend them. One of our first aims is to disseminate our work quickly. Nevertheless, we receive far more papers than we are able to publish.

The hard copy format does not replace the electronic format, it is just an addition to it. It has been requested by several scholars who are not computer-educated, by colleagues who have read or heard about the journals and are not able to spend many hours in front of a screen to download and print them, by those who do not know how to download and print them yet, by Internet readers who want to carry copy of the journals and also place them in their hard copy libraries, and by contributors who want their papers to be published in both electronic and hard copy formats.

Authors also prefer to have their contributions published in both formats because in some academic circles the electronic publication is not appreciated as much as the traditional one, even though there are first-rate academic journals which are published only on the Internet.

One more reason that has compelled us to publish in hard copy is the facility to infringe the copyright regulations on the Internet. This is due to the fact that is very easy, to the lack of a definitive "fair use" regulation of the whole Internet production, and to the impossibility of controlling this "fair use".

Another reason for reorganizing, printing, binding and distributing the journals is that the archives of several libraries are not computerized.
