We have just received (on surface) the Sungkyun Journal of East Asian Studies, vol. 10, no. 1 (Apr. 2009). This is a research publication on Sinology written in English. It is published by the Academy of East Asian Studies of Sungkyunkwan University.

Happy Birthday Aung San Suu Kyi

Today the Nobel Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi is turning 65. She is still under house arrest and has spent almost 15 of the last 20 years in this condition in Myanmar. In 1990, when she was elected Prime Minister as the leader of the National League for Democracy party, she could not take office since she had already been detained under house arrest before the elections.

Last Friday British Foreign Office Ministers Friday called for her immediate and unconditional release and this week the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention pronounced her detention as a flagrant violation of international law.

We have just received (on surface mail) the Newsletter for Research in Chinese Studies, 113 (February 2010 - vol. 29, no. 1), a hard copy quarterly published by the Center for Chinese Studies (CCS), established in 1981 to promote research in Chinese studies both in Taiwan (The Republic of China) and overseas.

It is written in Chinese with subtitles in English. It contains articles, interviews, and regular updates on the happenings in the worldwide community of Chinese studies.
